Successful “Proof of Concept” with SIMATIC ET 200SP HA and MTL Universal IO SUM5
On March 30, 2021, the DI PA SE&C SO PCE demonstrated the verified functionality of the MTL SUM5 module on the configurable modules of the SIMATIC ET 200SP HA series. The team involved, consisting of representatives from DI PA SE&C SO PCE, DI PA CGO 5 1, DI PA AE HW and MTL Instruments GmbH, was enthusiastic about the result of the test – the “Proof of Concept” was successful!
What was the driver?
MTL Instruments GmbH, an Eaton company, and Siemens AG have a longstanding business relationship in the solutions business. When Hermann Müller, Bid Manager of the Proposal Center of Excellence at DI PA SE&C heard about the market launch of the MTL SUM5 modules, he immediately recognized the technical possibilities and got in touch with Marcel Hilger from MTL Instruments GmbH. He made two MTL SUM5 modules available at short notice and unbureaucratically.
The idea turned into a plan – the preparations could begin: In the first step, a wiring typical was developed because SIMATIC ET 200SP HA has never been used in conjunction with MTL SUM5. This task was taken over by the Siemens Global Engineering Center (GEC) in India. Furthermore, a test setup had to be prepared and test scenarios developed. Olaf Schnur from Vertical Management Chemistry (DI PA CGO 5 1) dedicated himself to this task.
After the test setup was completed and all test scenarios worked, everyone involved was invited to the “Proof of Concept” in order to demonstrate the projected functions.
